The Etugen Ensemble of Mongolia

Mongolian folk music and song ensemble

Etugen group

The Etugen Ensemble is one of Mongolia’s most successful small-group folk ensembles. Etugen’s repertory features a wide range of traditional folk music and songs, all of which are drawn from the ancient nomadic heritage of the Mongolian peoples. Concert performances include music that imitates the gallop and neighing of horses and the cries of baby camels, and songs that express the deep love the Mongolians have for their land and all who call it home. When one hears Etugen perform, one better understands the lives of a people who have lived for centuries in close collaboration with the natural and spiritual worlds that surround them.

Formed in 2001 by Mr. B. Badamsuren, Etugen has toured throughout Europe and Asia, including numerous concerts in Japan, where it has been repeatedly invited back to perform. In January 2004, the group was featured at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, in Elko, Nevada, where they performed for—and along side of—famous American cowboy musicians and singers. In fall 2008, Etugen makes its first concert tour of the United States.
